Now we all love the nokia n9 swipe unlock feature where you swipe from the edge of the screen to unlock the phone, The feature is something nokia came up with specially for the meego OS, long with the double tap feature but now all of you/us symbian fans can  get that same swipe unlock on our device! (well something pretty close to it anyway)

It’s a pretty nice app! it’s called “SwipeUnlock” and you can buy it now at the Nokia Store

Great news all you nokia n9 owners, you can now get google’s  Android 4.0.3 (ICS) to run on your nokia n9! thanks to the guys at  NITDroid! now before you go back-flipping all over the place please keep in mind that this is just the first Alpha release so everything isn’t working just yet but you can still do the basics.

Here a list of things that should work:

- dualboot kernel (without reflashing), ability to choose OS after power on.
- 3D drivers, OpenGL
- hwrotation (portrait mode only, accelerometer HAL doesn’t work)
- touchscreen (multitouch)
- hw buttons (volume, power)
- ECI accessory (headset buttons)
- USB networking
- lcd off in sleep mode
- alarm driver, RTC
- mounting MyDocs as “SDCard” [realized; NOT FIXED, but HACK EXISTS]
- basic video decoding (sw) and playback, youtube (choppy)
- basic CellMo functionality: network registration, USSD, SMS, data (GPRS/EDGE/3G), signaling. Actually, ofono/ofono- ril stack is used: all things that it able to do on the n900.
- bluetooth (scanning, can pair devices. I didn’t test deeper).
- charging (note: without any notification in UI)
- sensors: accelerometer
- audio: playback (audio routing to: loudspeaker, headset or earpiece)
- lights HAL (lcd brightness)
- root access (via adb shell; su/Superuser.apk)

3. Are you ready for NIT? ДА или НЕТ?!?

b. copy the archive to your Nokia N9.

c. execute “as root” command:

4. Reboot, push “Volume Up” button when message “Press VolUp to boot alternative OS” appear . Wait a little, pray a little…

First of all: go to Settings->Display->Sleep, choose “30 minutes”. Critical defect (“too deep sleep to ping watchdogs”) is yet to be fixed.
Don’t let your device sleep. Otherwise it could die:)

Commands that would make your life easier:
adb connect 192.168.2.15:5039 — connect to your device. USB/ADB is broken, but ADB works well over USB networking.
adb logcat — for reading “main” log
adb logcat -b radio — for reading “radio” log
adb shell — to enter to shell
adb pull/push — allow get/put file from/to the device
adb shell rr — “restart radio” — restarts ofono and RIL
adb shell bb — show battery/charging status

Ever since nokia announced that they were making windows phone 7 there main OS I have more or less fallen out of the blogging game, mainly because I didn’t understand or support their decision however over time I came to a better understanding of why they did what they did, I didn’t support it 100% but I understood, so as nokia got ready to move to wp7 and kill off symbian, My self and many other nokia fans just stood back waited to see something from nokia to make us happy and excited again.

Then they announced the Nokia N9 and I just like everyone else was happy again, I loved nokia again, I wanted to blog about nokia again and from no way nokia were back in the game, until I really started to think about it, I stated thinking about what would be a good  reason why nokia would move to wp7 after seeing what meego could do months before anyone else did, why would you leave an OS that had much promise to go with one that little to no one likes?  I would have understood if they said meego would not be ready on time and it couldn’t ship this year or if symbain couldn’t be update to match the like of android, so they had to move to wp7 to save them self, If they said something like that I would be able to level with them and say “yes, it’s time for a change” but you can’t show me a fully operational meego device with no buttons, a new swipe home interface with the best multitasking ever seen on a phone and expect me to say “yes move to an OS that is basically trying to do the same thing that meego is doing just that it doesn’t look as good or works as well.

I know some people think that they are two completely different OS and to those  people I ask: what is Microsoft’s aim with wp7? it’s to make everything simple and easy, an easy to navigate UI that keeps you connected to your friends, family and social networks…right? yes! now let me ask you this: when you look at the meego OS what do you see? A simple and easy to navigate UI, right? yes! and when you look at the notification screen on meego what do you see? A place that keeps you connected and up to date with  friends, family and social networks. right? yes!  what’s the differences between them? you ask, The look and feel! when you look at the home screen of wp7 what do you see? two rows of colored moving boxes, now look at the home screen of meego, what do you see? a new bright fresh Ui with colorful  icons.

An other difference  is that meego comes with more than half of the things that Microsoft is now trying to put into wp7 for example: Multitasking, meego was built with multitasking in mind, as a matter of  fact, the hole OS was built around multitasking and I really like that. To me being simple don’t mean plain and that is why I think meego has beaten wp7 at it’s own game but anyways back to to what I was saying.

So they announced the N9 and everyone is happy and likes nokia again, until we look at meego and wp7 and realize just how bad making the decision to move to windows phones 7 really was, so at this point everyone is a little mad and we’re all thinking “fine! move to wp7, i’m just going to get the n9..f#ck wp7” and that was a good plan but big boss Elop knew we would do that, so to make sure we all didn’t just get the n9 and forget about wp7 and making him look bad for making a bad decision, he more or less killed n9 before it even came out by making it only available in a very very limited amount if countries, Mexico &  Malaysia being the only places known so far.

So now being  die hard nokia fans means that we have to watch them hopefully fail with wp7 run back to meego and work there way back to the up with meego being the main OS, symbian on the lower priced phones and wp7 on the touchscreen feature phones.

Ohh Nokia.

The first thing that caught me about this app was it’s name. Now for those who don’t know I’m from Trinidad and Tobago and if you’re familiar with my people you would know that we have our own dialect and one phrase used daily from this dialect is, “yuh done” or “u done” So it makes sense now right? Honestly I heard about this app and I wasn’t excited, I thought to myself, “damn another boring task manager” and when I opened it, I was greeted by nothing exciting, however when I dug further I realised it was packed with various goodies, like a voice recorder, sketch app, etc.

This makes recording tasks very simple. You can draw, record, take a picture or type out text to attach to your “task” to make it easier to remember. The lite version is what I used to write this review and it loads reasonably fast although my devices is overclocked to 1.2Ghz. It comes packed with themes so the programme can match your current theme as best as possible however in the future, I would like to see an integration with my social networks so that important events can be broadcasted into the app and then you can be alerted via a tone and get to see what tasks you have available. Maybe also task sharing where, your boss or friend can write out a task and send it to you over Wifi in the work place,for now you’re just alerted of your tasks when you set the alarm for it.

It comes also with a neat calender and the *Help button actually is animated so no need to read a list of boring help notes. But honestly I’m not a task manager person, and even though it comes with so many nice things to make jotting down tasks simple fast, I rather just take a mental note, but it is a great looking app though and very useful for those with a busy schedule.

Yes folks I got my Nokia N900 on Wednesday afternoon and I’ve been deep in to when ever I could which is usually during work (sneaking a peek) and after work posted up by my bedroom window “stealing” some Wifi from my neighbour. Honestly I haven’t gotten totally familiar with her yet so the most I’ve been doing is checking my mail and some light IM-ing. I got the basic games like Angry Birds level pack 1 and Brain Challenge I would have more games but for some reason I can’t download large files using the stolen Wifi. Oh and I’m a Noob so don’t go rushing off on calling me stupid if the reason is obvious to you. Nicki is being very well behaved, no problems no bugs, hopefully soon I’ll know her like the back of my hand for now I just like her in my palm 24/7

I haven’t found a favorite app for her yet. I’m just installing and un-installing as I go along. Next week I’m hopefully going to the National Library and do some heavy surfing. I’ll let you guys know about all that fun stuff. Wooooohooo!

Earlier this week more specs of the N9 have been leaked to the public. Now I am biased when it comes to the N9 because it feels like cheating on my first love “Nicki the N900″. Even with a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 64Gigs of internal memory. The N9 is expected to have everything a man can what, plus more  a  480 x 800 pixels, 4 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colours, scratch resistive surface, 5 mega pixel camera with dual-LED flash, assorted colours and a sexy sleek finish. Yet still I’m commited to my Nicki but I know some of you will love Nati the N9, I mean from what the rumours say, she’s very well put together and I have no doubt that I myself would have fun with her as long as Nicki doesn’t find out The only question now is which Os will it run? meego or Symbian?
