Buttons
Not one to scrimp on the detail, Nokia has made sure that all the bases – or more to the point, buttons – are covered. All the buttons along the side of the device are cut-outs from the same piece of aluminium, adding to the luxury feel of the device. Also, for the clumsy amongst us, the moveable buttons have been rubberised to save your digits from mishaps.

HDMI
Showing off your mobile content at home has never been easier. The HDMI connector allows you to connect your N8 to your TV and share all the pics from your travels. Alternatively, you can watch side-loaded true HD quality content in real time via HDMI at up to 30fps. Add to this Dolby Digital Plus Surround sound capabilities, and you’ve got the complete package. In the box, the N8 will come with HDMI adapter for you to connect with a standard HDMI cable.

Screen
With the capacitive touchscreen on offer on the N8, there’s the capability to pinch zoom in applications like Photos and Browser. Did you know that capacitive touchscreens will only respond to materials that are conductive?  Handy if you’ve got sticky fingers and need to give the screen a quick wipe with a cloth. It also responds to just a touch rather that a press on the screen. No worrying about oops-a-daisy inputs here. With a 3.5 inches screen estate, AMOLED, 16M colours and a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels, it’s perfect for watching widescreen movies too

Battery Life
Within the Nokia N8 is an integrated battery that’ll keep you in juice for days. Talk-time at its maximum is 720 mins (GSM) and 350 mins (WCDMA) and standby time comes in at 390 hours (GSM) and 400 hours (WCDMA). Not bad for a smartphone, we think.

Social Networking
We’re accustomed to keeping in touch with Ovi, on the Nokia N8 it’s even easier. Social networks can be accessed from multiple places such as the homescreen, maps and contacts. Live feeds from Facebook and Twitter are directly pushed to the homescreen for easy viewing. Also, you can comment, read and send messages, update your status and share your location, photos and more. Calendar events from social networks can also be added to the device calendar, so you’ll – hopefully – never miss an important date again.

Flash Support
YouTube fans and gamers rejoice – Flash is supported on the Nokia N8. It’s a Flash 10.1 compatible Flash runtime (ActionScript 3) and player, called Flash Lite. A point to note: the device does not support all of Flash 10 features for graphics but all video-related features are supported.

Email
Nokia N8 features a completely new email client combining several accounts into one. In addition to Ovi Mail, there is a large amount of supported email clients with POP3/IMAP. There is also support for the business email solution, Mail for Exchange.

WebTV
WebTV is another new weapon added to the Nokia N8’s arsenal. The Web TV application delivers TV programs, news and entertainment from channels like Paramount, E! Entertainment, CNN and National Geographic. Locally relevant Web TV content will also available from the Ovi Store.

Sensors
The Nokia N8 has backlighting and ambient light sensor, magnetometer (compass), orientation sensor and a proximity sensor. Both the orientation sensor and magnetometer come in very handy for finding your way around using Ovi Maps. The proximity sensor and ambient light sensor, on the other hand, are your battery’s best friend. The proximity sensor will switch off the screen every time you bring the phone to your face to answer a call and the ambient light sensor will adjusts the display’s brightness dependent on your surroundings.

To kick things off we have one of the most interesting games out there, its made by Breakdesign you know the guys who made the ”That Roach Game South Africa”  while there isn’t any roaches to kill this time around there are some undead zombies to put back to the grave of your OS but here is the twits, the zombies only come out at night (10pm-5am) which means for the other 17 hours (morning time) there will be no zombies, what you will get when you open the game is a new funny little game called “where is the love?” lost? the screenshot below should help you.

remember this is the same game (well not really), it launches from the same icon, but when you open it in the morning you get a happy game about love and when you open it after 10pm you get zombies ready and willing to eat your brains. You can find & download 10pm at the Ovi store

We all love reading comics right? no? well most of us do anyway, and while reading comics is fun, I know some times you (well maybe not you but I) just wish you could make your our, you know a little super cj to save the world just like super man, well now you can with a cool little app called “Comics Creator”

Guns ‘N’ Glory is a  tower defense style game with less than great controls but it’s playable and very very fun, x6 users should love this game while  n97 and 5800 user may have a hard time  play it with out a stylus

the version of the game that i have is not in English (got it off an old micro SD card i had round) there isn’t a copy of the game in the Ovi store but i’m sure you could just google it

Staying in line with today’s theme of “Fun” we have other fun app called Finger Print, this app allows you to use your fingerprint to unlock your phone (well not really)  this is just a simulation for fun, which you can fool your friends into thinking your phone can scan finger prints.

Unscrew the Torx+ size 4 screw on each side of the Nokia N8 7 full turns. Do not remove the screw completely!

2. Pull out the bottom assembly.

3. Lift and pull out the battery lid.

4. Use the pull-out tape to remove the ORIGINAL battery.

5. Attach the pull-out adhesive to your NEW battery

6. Insert the NEW battery as shown.

7. Place the shown end of the battery lid and then lower down the other end. Note that the battery pull-out tape is left under the battery lid.

8. Press and hold both of the two shown screws in.

9. Place the bottom cover as shown and press it into its place. If the bottom cover does not go in properly, loosen up the side screws a bit.

10. Hold the bottom cover in its place and tighten the torx + size 4 screws on both sides. That’s it!

Yesterday was the first day in my new job. I’m fortunate to say that I must have one of the most exciting jobs in the business. As head of Mobile Solutions, it’s my aim to ensure Nokia stays as the market and intellectual leader in creating the digital world. I’m under no illusions; it’s no small task.

Over the coming months, we’ll be advancing current projects and working to simplify the way we work in order to deliver products and services faster, and with a laser focus on quality.

I am committed, perhaps even obsessed, with getting Nokia back to being number one in high-end devices. Achieving this will require performance and efforts over and above the norm. This is a role I’ve personally been preparing for over the last 20 years. We have all the assets — including R&D and product development – at our disposal under one roof – to produce killer smartphones and market-changing mobile computers.

Over the coming months, we’ll be releasing the Nokia N8, the first Symbian^3 phone from Nokia. I have been testing the N8 and I believe it is going to surprise a lot of people with its power and speed. The camera and HD quality video and deep integration with Ovi services will make this an entertainment powerhouse. We also plan to deliver our first MeeGo device this year. And MeeGo has me buzzing.

Symbian and MeeGo are the best software for our smartest devices. As such, we have no plans to use any other software. Despite rumors to the contrary, there are no plans to introduce an Android device from Nokia. There has also been some confusion about Symbian and Nseries. The Nokia N8 will be our only Nseries device on Symbian^3. Of course, we ‘never comment on future products’, but a Symbian^4 Nseries device is a strong possibility. A very strong possibility 

Symbian is our platform of choice for Nokia smartphones. Symbian has taken a lot of criticism lately – some of it fair, some not. But what is consistently overlooked is that Symbian still accounts for more than two-fifths of the global smartphone market. We believe the Nokia N8 will have great appeal. People want a smartphone that is familiar, packed with features, offers great performance. With products like the N8 and others to follow, we have preserved the best and most familiar parts of Symbian, making it effortless for the largest population of smartphone users to upgrade. We are determined to win back supporters, including Ricky, our favourite Symbian Guru.

MeeGo offers us an opportunity to take mobile technology beyond the smartphone, and into a new world of connected devices. As Symbian gears up to compete with the likes of iPhone and Android, MeeGo is taking clear aim at the computing space.

The current phase of MeeGo development is looking awesome. We believe it will power the computers of the future. And the computers of the future will not be tied to a desk or even a lap – they will fit in your pocket.

From the ground up, MeeGo is a computer operating system. Working with Intel, we’ve combined our assets to create a software platform that completely integrates mobile elements such as GPS, Bluetooth, NFC and more. This will offer developers a rich environment to create new possibilities for users.

For consumers, it will mean true computing power in your pocket. Something that can deliver everything you want, but be with you all the time.

Together, Symbian and MeeGo will form the backbone of our Mobile Solutions unit. This unit contains all the assets it requires to develop and deliver inspiring and game-changing products.

There is no denying, that as a challenger now, we have a fight on our hands. The first battle is to bring you products and services you will want to own and use, to inspire you to create and do new things in this ever changing digital world.

I’m ready to take this challenge on, and so is the entire Nokia team.

so what do you guys think? can nokia do it? can they come back and get their long lost fans back? i think they can but its not going to be easy and it not going to happen anytime soon.
