Today a video of what looks to be meego running on a nokia phone emulator, the UI demoed on the video however looks nothing like the screenshots we have seen anytime before, so maybe its not meego and its Symbian^4?? and to add to the point that UI looks nothing like the screenshot, there are app in the ovi store demoed in the video that are only available for Symbian e.g Gravity,Weather Touch, Adobe reader but on the other hand there is an “extras icon” in the menu and some maemo style multitasking going on also.

meego and symbian aside the Ui itself  looks really nice and slick,  its a hard one to call and we will just have to wait and to find out which it OS it really is buy on till then what do you think of it? which Os do you think it is?

Hello and welcome to the first of  what i hope to be many Gadgetized Weekly four (GW4), so lets get started

To kick things off we have one of the most interesting games out there, its made by Breakdesign you know the guys who made the ”That Roach Game South Africa”  while there isn’t any roaches to kill this time around there are some undead zombies to put back to the grave of your OS but here is the twits, the zombies only come out at night (10pm-5am) which means for the other 17 hours (morning time) there will be no zombies, what you will get when you open the game is a new funny little game called “where is the love?” lost? the screenshot below should help you.

remember this is the same game (well not really), it launches from the same icon, but when you open it in the morning you get a happy game about love and when you open it after 10pm you get zombies ready and willing to eat your brains. You can find & download 10pm at the Ovi store

We all love reading comics right? no? well most of us do anyway, and while reading comics is fun, I know some times you (well maybe not you but I) just wish you could make your our, you know a little super cj to save the world just like super man, well now you can with a cool little app called “Comics Creator”

as you can see from the screen shots above a had fun making my our comic Comics Creator is a fun little app which you can download from the Ovi store

Guns ‘N’ Glory is a  tower defense style game with less than great controls but it’s playable and very very fun, x6 users should love this game while  n97 and 5800 user may have a hard time  play it with out a stylus

the version of the game that i have is not in English (got it off an old micro SD card i had round) there isn’t a copy of the game in the Ovi store but i’m sure you could just google it

Staying in line with today’s theme of “Fun” we have other fun app called Finger Print, this app allows you to use your fingerprint to unlock your phone (well not really)  this is just a simulation for fun, which you can fool your friends into thinking your phone can scan finger prints.

you can use finger print in replace of the default nokia screen lock and you can download Finger Print here

My self like everyone else wishes that all nokia device ran the meamo os which is now called meego but we all know that, that isn’t going to happen anytime soon, so if you want meego/meamo or something that looks like meego on any other device then the n900, lets say your current devices, you will have to DIY via hacking or you could just use and app called GDesk, i’m not the best hacker in the world so i would go with Gdesk.

How to install.

• Download This file
• Install everything in the “GDesk” folder (on your device)

and you should have it up and working. (plz note: i did not test this my self) here are some sample videos of it running on the n97.

The n97 mini vs. the n900 seems like the classic case of david vs. golianth (and no not david castro) but all jokes aside the n97 mini and the n900 are arguably the top two nokia device available in the cell phone market today, this may or may not change pretty soon with the coming of the n8 but as for now the n900 and the n97 mini are the top dogs and as top dogs its only right for me to compare them and see which is the big and better dog in terms of form-factor.  As Marvin Gaye would say let get it on…

I did the first challenge of the #n97minitrunk challenge and i did have a bit of fun while doing it and i wanted share it with you guys  This is what the the letter from the first challenge said.

For your first challenge, All we’re looking for is who cwn get the best photo of the mini trunk in action, out and about in the real world. Simply get a shot of your N97minitrunk in a strange or creative place and get the image over to us for your next challenge……. Challenge 2.

A few weeks ago i was asked by Wom World nokia to take part in a nokia n97 mini challenge and at the point in time i was like a lost sheep in  jerusalem, not knowing anything about the challenge other than it had sometime to do with the nokia n97 mini but that was more than enough for me to say YES! and now two weeks after i happily accepted that request, a Hugh box in the shape of a mini that is not very mini? showed up at my door, you will see what i’m talking about in the video below…

the box contented : a N97 Mini with cables and accessories, list of challenges, Stero CD player, Address book, Telephone book, Large board game, Quill pen, Big Ass Calculator, Alarm clock, Compass, Compass accessory, Tape recorder, Photo album, Camera and  a  Pinecone, that’s right a pinecone! if you’re like me the question you’re asking your self  is “why is there a pinecone in the box?” and since we don’t know the answer, we need your help to guess the answer, please help us out as much as you can in the comments below, unboxing pictures below as-well

On a quick note i would like to say that the 5MP camera on the mini lives up to what we have come expect from nokia mobile device cameras, but on a personal note i don’t think the camera on the mini is as good as the one we saw on the on its big brother (the original  n97) as you can see from the videos below.

Today Nokia released the firmware version 2.1, for the N97 classic and it’s smaller brother, the N97 mini v1.1. Been trying the whole evening to install it but was having problems with my internet connection. After 2 hours of trying I finally managed to update it. Only my N97 mini was updated since my other big N97 is at my girlfriend’s house. Remember that they run the same software.

Been testing it the whole day and so far I have found the next improvements.

1. Better RAM management: This alone is an excelent improvemente. Since the release of the N97, we have been having problems with multitasking. Because it has only 128MB of RAM and just 45MB free after a boot, apps would close without warning losing everything we were doing. A big headache, I know. But I just tested and found that it is now possible to run more apps at the same time. Had web browser, ngage, and msn messenger running at the same time without issues, even the web browser displayed all the images on the site, something that wouldnt be able when running out of RAM

2. A new default theme. Actually not new, the Nseries 2 (black) theme has been modified slightly. The background is now real black and not the grayish, silverish background. The buttons, and widgets are of the same color as before, so you can compare the change.

3. Smoother scrolling. Before the update scrolling on the app folder would result in a slugish experience. But now you can scroll smoothly and fast.

As now those are the only updates to be discovered so far, still no official changelog but we will keep an eye on it. A good update, nothing too big, but surely will improve the perfomance and the user experience. If you want to upgrade hook your phone to the PC and run the nokia software updater and it is 161MB, you wont regret. You cant get the update over the air yet, so time to plug it in!
